November 2006

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Please join us on November 1st for a special liturgy in honor of All Saints Day at 8:15 AM. The First Grade class will lead us in prayer.

On Tuesday, November 2nd at 1:00 PM our children will be treated to a People Garden Theatrical Production by children who perform on Broadway! All are invited to join us in the St. Joseph Center for this event.

November is the month dedicated to All Souls. We remember and pray for our beloved dead. There will be an evening liturgy at 7:00 PM on November 2nd, the Feast of All Souls to remember and celebrate the lives of our loved ones.

We thank all our parents and the many parishioners who have been helping us with our Holiday Tricky Tray. Very important information is attached to this newsletter. We ask you to read it carefully and return the signed portion to your child’s teacher. Remember that all the funds received benefit our school children.

Leadership in our church and school are important. Twelve of our Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Graders attended a Villa Walsh retreat day on October 21st and were inspired by what they saw and learned. We continue to pray for Religious Vocations.

The Student Government will soon be in place. On November 7th we will have elections and train our young people how to lead.

Our peer mediators are in place and really taking on leadership responsibilities. We are pleased to see our young people assume the role of leader at St. Gerard’s and make a difference in the world where they live.

Please continue to supervise your children. Be sure that they are well prepared for class each day. Proper rest and healthy meals are important.

This month’s calendar is full of many activities. Please read it carefully and note the many wonderful programs we are having at. St. Gerard Majella School.

Our instrumental music program will begin on Wednesday, November 1st and continue weekly on Wednesdays. We are very happy and anxious to have our own school band.

Grades 4 and 7 will be taking the writing assessment tests on Tuesday, November 7th. Our Grade 8 students will be taking the High School CO-OP exams on Friday, November 10th. Please be sure these students are well rested, have eaten a good breakfast and are ready for this day! Be punctual, testing will begin at 8:00 AM.

Mrs. Sheila O’Leary, our Assistant Superintendent from the Diocese, will be making her formal visitation to the school on Wednesday, November 15th. We welcome her and know she will be pleased to see the progress of our shining stars.

Girls Basketball Practice is CANCELLED on Thursday, November 16th. We are preparing the center for the Holiday Tricky Tray.

November 19th brings us to the long awaited and much anticipated Holiday Tricky Tray at 1:00 PM. All workers are to arrive at 12:00 Noon. Everyone, including workers must have a ticket and enter through the St. Joseph Center Door. Workers must sign in as they arrive. Your support and cooperation is needed and appreciated.

On Tuesday, November 21st we will have our Thanksgiving Prayer Service and installation of our student government and peer mediators. Please join us at 7:00 PM and bring food items to place in baskets that will be distributed to families in need.

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday m November 22nd. There will be No School for students on that day.

Wishing you and your family a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving Holiday, filled with much love and blessings,

Gratefully,

Sr. Jo-Ann Pompa, M.P.F.
