March 2005

Dear Parents/Guardians, Thank you to all who took the time to attend our informative meeting on our financial situation and heard first hand why we had to raise our tuition. We appreciate all your support and the love you have for Saint Gerard Majella School and all that it stands for. Re-registration is now taking place and we would appreciate you registering your child/ren as soon as possible for the 2005 - 2006 school year. We know that you make sacrifices to send your child/ren to Saint Gerard Majella School because you believe we provide academic excellence for all our students as well as a safe, caring environment where faith and love for God exists. Having God as the center of our day creates a peaceful, happy place we call our home away from home. The shining stars of St. Gerard School are the best and most precious gift that you have entrusted to us. We are a family who has come to love each one of these treasures. The dedication each and every teacher has is remarkable. We all try our best to work together to promote our school and all that we stand for. Shining star students and star parents work with us and help us with the mission we have to accomplish together. With Jesus all is possible. Without Jesus, nothing is possible. So let us all come together and be involved. Try to attend the activities and social events. Get to know one another better. Be a part of your child/ren's education. You are their FIRST teachers.

Last night we held an evening of sacramental preparation. Thank you to all who attended. I was inspired by your participation and interest in your faith. You are the model for your children. Keep them close to Jesus and attend Sunday Liturgy. Make it a top priority and you will feel the presence of the Lord in your life as you journey with Him each day. Know that Jesus walks with you and is always there for you.

March is the month dedicated to honoring Saint Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, patron of the universal church and of families. Please plan on joining us for our celebration honoring this great saint and family man by attending our family night on Saturday, March 19, 2005, which is the feast of Saint Joseph. The liturgy will be at 5:30 in the church and a covered dish supper will follow in the St. Joseph Center additional details are on an attached flyer. We are hoping to see all of our families come together to enjoy an evening of faith and friendship.

The Terra Nova Tests will be administered to all students in Grades 1 - 7 the week of March 7th - 11th. We ask that you make no appointments during this week so that your child will be able to take the tests on the designated dates. Please be sure your child/ren go to bed early, are well rested, have a good breakfast and come to school on time. We begin each day with Morning Prayer at 8:00 am and it is very important for your child/ren to begin their day in a relaxed and peace-filled manner.

Our annual trip to see the play at Villa Walsh Academy will be held on Friday, March 18, 2005. The First through Eighth Grade students will be going to see "Cinderella". They are looking forward to this day and we know they will have a great time.

Palm Sunday introduces us to the most important week of the year, Holy Week. It takes all the devotion and attention we can muster in order to prepare ourselves and all the time we have to gather with others so we can share in the suffering of the cross and the triumph of Resurrection. Let us try to attend Holy Week Services.

On Holy Thursday morning, March 24th we will gather for Morning Prayer at 8:15 a.m. in church with our entire student body. Please join us in prayer if you are able. Good Friday Services are at 3:00 p.m. We also invite you to come and pray with us as the Eighth Graders portray the Living Stations of the Cross at 7:00 p.m. in the church. Bring your family to walk along with Jesus on the road to Calvary and which ultimately leads to our salvation. On Easter Sunday morning join us for our family Liturgy at 9:00 a.m. Plan ahead to make Jesus a top priority in your life and that of your family.

Easter Recess begins with a 12:00 Noon dismissal on Thursday, March 24, 2005. There will be NO after school care on that day. School will resume on Monday, April 4, 2005. The faculty, staff and I join our voices as one as we wish you and your family a blessed Holy Week and a happy, joyful Easter. We are an Easter people and our song is "Alleluia".

May the Lord give you His peace,

With love and gratitude,
