May 2005 Dear Parents/Guardians Peace Be With You! Jesus tells us not to be afraid for I will be with you always until the end of time. Jesus is the only one that can give us true peace. Let us reach out to Him and ask His blessings during this season of peace. The passing of our beloved Pope John Paul II has moved all of us. The children's daily prayers and tributes to him were inspirational. He was truly the Pope of the people. Let us continue to keep his memory alive. May he have eternal rest in the heavenly kingdom. John Paul II, we love you! What an exciting time the election of a new pope has been for our children. We all watched and were touched by the inspiring ceremonies that took place for the introduction of our 265th Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI. The faith and beauty of our children has moved their teachers and me. Questions and answers were shared daily and the children know that the church is truly alive because Jesus is alive and He lives in each of us. Thursday, May 5th is the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord into Heaven. Please join us at the 12:00 Noon Liturgy to honor our Lord Jesus and ask Him to bless us all and grant us the true gift of peace. On Tuesday, May 10th we will be having our annual Science Fair. The entire student body from Kindergarten to Grade 8 will be participating in this activity. Mr. Fish from the Performing Arts Agency will be our presenter in The Anti-Gravity Show at 6:30 PM. This will take place in the St. Joseph Center. We ask you to please mark this date down now and join us as we see the hard work and growth of your child/ren in the area of science. The Feast of St. Lucy Filippini falls on Thursday, May 12th. She loved the Blessed Mother and always adorned altars in her honor. In celebration of this practice of our beloved St. Lucy, we will have our May Crowning and shower Mary our Mother with our prayers, love and gratitude. This will take place at 1:00 PM in our church. Our Spring Musical, "The Colors of the Rainbow" is set for Monday, May 23rd at 7:30 PM. The children are to come to school dressed for our rehearsal performance for the Seniors. Tickets will be sold for $5.00 per person. These funds will go toward our Science program. There will be no school Friday, May 27th and Monday, May 30th in celebration of the Memorial Day holiday. Spend it with family and friends. The St. Gerard Majella Annual Church Bazaar will be coming up soon. We ask you to please sign up when asked to help make this year's event a great success. Your support is essential. We thank you for your continued support in all we try to achieve here at St. Gerard Majella School. Special thanks to all of you who helped make our Mission Fair a huge success. We raised $1,000.00 thanks to each and every person that helped make this possible. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Nahra, Mrs. Torres, and Mrs. Esquilin as well as Mrs. Ciarfella and the Eighth Grade students for an outstanding job.
