March 2007

Dear Parents/Guardians,

March is the month dedicated to honoring Saint Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, patron of the universal church and of families. We would like to celebrate this special feast, honoring this just man, on Saturday, March 17, 2007. Since this day is also the feast of Saint Patrick, we would honor both these saints at the 5:30 PM liturgy, followed by a procession to the Saint Joseph Center where there will be a special table honoring St. Joseph with delicious goodies for you to purchase and enjoy with your family. There will be free coffee! The wonderful ladies of the altar and rosary society are working very hard to help the church and school with this special event. Please make every effort to attend this liturgy and to support this fundraiser. We are in this special season of lent, coming together for a spiritual and social celebration is very important. We need to support our children and our church! Together we all can make a difference and keep St. Gerard Majella Church and School alive!! All depends on each one of us!! We look forward to seeing all of you at this celebration for the man who is the patron of families!!

We are beginning re-registration and taking new registrations beginning March 5th. Please send us your new family members and friends. All those who re-register must be up to date with all payments. You need to register now!

Students in Grades 1 through 7 will be taking the Terra Nova Tests the week of March 5th through 9th. We ask that your child/ren are well rested and have a good breakfast so that they can do their best on these standardized tests. Please be sure your child/ren continue to study and complete homework daily!

Good luck to Matthew Montague as he represents St. Gerard Majella School in the Spelling Bee at William Paterson College on Saturday, March 10th. We are proud of you, Matt!

Stations of the Cross will be held in our church every Friday afternoon with the exception of Friday. March 23rd. That week, we will have stations on Wednesday, March 21st. Stations begin at 12:30 PM. We hope you are able to come and journey with us as we follow Jesus to Calvary.

On Thursday, March 22, 2007 students in Grade 1 through 8 will be attending the Spring Musical, Me and My Girl, at Villa Walsh Academy in Morristown, NJ. Our faculty and shining stars are anxiously looking forward to an enjoyable and wonderful performance!! Our students will return in time for 2:45 dismissal.

Our theme for lent is Journey with Jesus to the Cross. Please plan to join us for Sunday Liturgy and the Holy Week services that we will announce in a special flier.

Each day, we, at St. Gerard Majella School come together in prayer to begin our day. We try to live out the gospel vision of Jesus, rooted in love and respect for each other. The beatitudes and the corporal works of mercy are being instilled in the lives of our children. It would be wonderful for you, their parents/guardians, who are their first teachers, to set the good example that puts Jesus first in your family.

We are working very hard to help the poor children of the world especially during this Lenten Season by pennies and making sacrifices. Special thanks go to our generous parishioners who save their pennies and occasionally surprise us with a bag full of pennies. God bless you! We are very grateful!

The Eighth Grade Students will be presenting the Living Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, April 6, 2007. Please come and pray with us on this exceptional evening.

As you know on Sunday, May 20th we are having another tricky tray to benefit our children. We are asking all of our families to be very supportive of this fundraiser and to do all that you can to make this event a huge success. We are reaching out to all of our community members and parishioners who helped us raise $18,000 with our November Tricky Tray and we hope to earn even more this time. Please show us that you want St. Gerard Majella School to continue by helping us with this fundraiser! We need you!

We thank all of you who support us and continue to encourage us by your wonderful compliments and remarks regarding all the good you see happening in St. Gerard Majella School! We are proud of who we are and what we stand for. Faith in EVERY Student is our motto.

Please read the calendar carefully and make note of all that is happening in your school.

The faculty joins me in wishing you God's continued blessings as we struggle together on our journey with Jesus to the cross.

May Jesus give you and your family peace!

With love and blessings,

Sr. Jo-Ann Pompa, M.P.F.
